Dan Aykroyd en Albert Brooks leveren een boeiende proloog die voorafgaat aan vier bijzondere verhalen (waarvan er drie geactualiseerde herverfilmingen zijn van drie aparte tv- afleveringen van Rod Serling). Geen van de verhalen heeft echter dat ontzettend belangrijke moment van onthulling dat de tv-films zo goed maakte, en geen enkele is beter dan zijn origineel. Het beste is het vierde deel, het opnieuw verfilmde Nightmare at 20.000 feet met Lithgow als een bange vliegtuigpassagier, maar ook hier is meer duidelijkheid, dus minder intrige dan in de inmiddels klassiek geworden afleveringen van de tv-serie uit de jaren 1960-1970.
